Washington online sports betting

Washington State became the twenty-first state to officially legalize sports betting in March 2020. The new bill HB 2638 was approved by both the house and senate before bypassing a referendum vote due to an emergency provision that had been inserted into the bill.

As it stands the legislation only allows for sports betting at any of the state's 29 tribal casinos. However since these casinos are currently open, we will have to wait a few months before sportsbooks will have been able to set up shop in the state.

Online sports betting will only be allowed on-site for the moment.

Online Sports Betting in Washington

In March 2020 the Evergreen State finally legalized sports betting, fast-tracking a bill through the house and senate and bypassing a state referendum.

The bill however only allows sports betting at the state's federally recognized casinos. The casino's may chose to partner with sportsbooks such as DraftKings or FanDuel but until casinos are allowed to open again, we will have to wait and see.

This leglislation is likely to benefit neighbouring Oregon where the national lottery has launched a sportsbook app. Residents in Washington just need to cross the state lines if they wish to use the Oregon State app.
