Kentucky is currently sandwiched between states that have either legalized sports betting, or are in the process of doing so.
West Virginia and Indiana have both completely opened their market up to online sportsbooks and reaping the benefits in terms of additional state revenue from taxation.
Ohio, Illinois, Missouri and Virginia are all expected to have legal online sports betting in the next couple of years. Tennessee looks like it will go online in September 2020 with a unique mobile-first approach.
Kentucky looked like they were joining the club when a bill that would have legalized sports betting made it all the way through committee level in the Kentucky House, only to be blocked at the Senate level. If it had been allowed to go to a vote it was estimated to go through with 60% support.
Considering the support exists, and the behavior of all their neighbors we cannot see this bill being locked again in 2021.
