Kentucky Sports Betting

Kentucky, home to the most prestigious horse race in the US, looked all but set to welcome legal online sports betting in 2020. The House bill was approved at the committee level and had strong support in the Senate.

However, bipartisan politics eventually got in the way and the bill was never allowed to make it to a vote. The vote had roughly 60% support in the House, so it looks like it is only a matter of time before it eventually gets approved. That will most likely be in 2021.

Sports are popular in Kentucky, although less so than many of its neighbors, so it will be interesting to see how many Kentucky sportsbooks do launch in the state should it legalize sports betting. One deciding factor for many of these sportsbooks will be what tax rate the state chooses to levy on sports betting revenue.
